James Wesley Atkinson, age 93, of Washburn, Missouri
James Wesley Atkinson, age 93, of Washburn, Missouri passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 at Aurora Nursing Center in Aurora, Missouri.
He was born August 2, 1930 in Webb City, Arkansas the son of William Frank and Goldie Lee (Gantt) Atkinson. On September 9, 1952 he was united in marriage to Dolores Mae Carroll, who survives. Also surviving are six children, Rickey Atkinson and his wife Linda of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, Vicki Vinson of Pensacola, Florida, Kenyon Atkinson and his wife Carol of Cassville, Missouri, Lisa Rataczak and her husband William of Pineville, Missouri, Aaron Atkinson of Washburn, Missouri and Teresa Schwellinger of Washburn, Missouri; one brother, Eugene Atkinson and his wife Maxine of Garden City, Kansas; 34 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Clay Atkinson; two sisters and three brothers.
James attended school in Springdale, Arkansas graduating from Pilgrim’s Rest School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army serving from August 4, 1954 until July 18, 1956. He owned and operated the former Jim’s Automotive in Washburn, Missouri for several years. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing and camping. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregation.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
