Another step on the road to North Arkansas College becoming part of the University of Arkansas System has been taken.
This past week, the Board of Trustees approved unanimously to accept North Ark as a part of the system following a similar vote of the North Ark Board earlier in May according to a post on the North Arkansas College Facebook Page.
According to an article linked to the Facebook page from the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the joint resolutions passed will allow both institutions to begin the process of putting a merger agreement together that would have to be signed by both schools. The merger also needs the approval of the Higher Learning Commission according to the Democrat-Gazette article.
North Arkansas President Dr. Rick Massengale, during an interview earlier this year on New Country 1029's :Livin Life with Lisa" program, said that the target for the merger take effect would be for the 2026-27 school year.
After the North Arkansas College Board of Trustees voted earlier this month to join the University of Arkansas System, UA System trustees voted to accept the college during a meeting this week at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas.
