The Boone County Community Band's last concert of the season is coming up, according to the director, Robert Phelan.
Phelan appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Wednesday to talk about it. The band will perform on May 21 in the Harrison High School Performing Arts Center. The free concert will kick off at 6:30 p.m. While the concert is free to attend, donations are accepted.
Phelan commented on how nice it is to have the local performing venue and called it "top-notch." The about 53-member band is made up of many different people.
The director said the band ranges from musicians in their teens to their seventies. It's about half students and half adults.
Growth is the hope for the future. Phelan explained that the desire is to have more adults. Clarinet players are especially needed.
However, Phelan said that adults with experience with wind or percussion as well as reed playing are welcome. More high school students are welcome too.
Junior high students are invited to join with the requirement that they have made all-region in junior high school. More was discussed on the broadcast.
The full interview with Phelan is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
