Another scam strikes, according to a Facebook post by the Taney County Sheriff's Office.
Part of the post is below:
We’ve recently been made aware of a scam currently circulating via text message and email. The message claims to be from the Missouri Department of Motor Vehicles and falsely states that you have an outstanding traffic ticket. It then provides a link and instructions on how to “resolve” the matter by sending money.
Let us be clear:
This is 100% a scam.
MO Dept. Of Revenue and Missouri Courts will NOT contact you via text or email about a warrant or traffic ticket
You will NEVER be asked to pay over email, text, with gift cards or prepaid debit cards to avoid arrest.
Scammers use fear and urgency to trick people into sending money or giving up personal information. If you receive a message like this:
Do NOT respond.
Do NOT click any links.
Do NOT send money.
Report it and delete the message.
