An area county will be impacted by a new state law which will separate two county office positions.
Currently, Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell also serves as the County Tax Collector, but a new law passed by the legislature and signed into law by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders will change that.
House Bill 1137 lays out the guidelines for splitting the offices, starting with the election of 2026 which will have both Sheriff’s and Tax Collector Offices on the ballot with the two winners to be sworn into office in 2027.
The bill was sponsored by District 27 House Member Steven Walker of Horseshoe Bend and District 24 Senator Missy Irvin of Mountain View.
