Program Involving Military Benefits Community

United States Army Reserve training can benefit the community at large, according to Kristin Porter.

Porter is with the United States Army Reserve. She appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to talk about a program that offers training to members of the reserve while at the same time benefitting the public. It begins on July 16 and runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

She's located in Salt Lake City and is part of 807 Medical Command. It has brigades under it; one of them is based near Kansas City, MO. Through the Innovative Readiness Training program, the military branch can offer services to meet community needs.

Porter explained that these needs can include cyber, health and more. The Department of Defense accepts requests and pairs them with military units that can appropriately fulfill those needs.

She said her the reserves are constantly training, and this program allows them to train will giving service to the community. Her unit is serving from Jasper and Kingston High School.

The best part: all of the medical services provided come with no cost to the community. The downside is they are only in the area for two weeks.

On July 17 through July 20, it will go from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On July 21, it will run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

From July 22 to July 24, the service will go 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last day of the service is July 25, and it will stay active from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. More was discussed on the broadcast.
