Operation Christmas Child is close to collecting shoeboxes in Harrison, according to Courtney Lantis.
Lantis and Eric Deewese appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to talk about the ministry. Lantis is the media and church relations coordinator while Deewese is the logistics coordinator for the North Central Arkansas crew. They said boxes are collected from Nov. 18 to Nov. 25.
There's another option. Deewese said that it's possible to build a shoebox online for $25. Anyone not wanting to give a box can provide a financial donation.
Operation Christmas Child runs through Samaritan's Purse. Lantis explained that it spreads the love of God by packing boxes with gifts for kids from two to 14. Deewese gave more detail about the ministry.
It launched in 1993. Franklin Graham was compelled by what he saw children experiencing during the crisis in Bosnia. Graham reached out to a local pastor to inquire about sending gifts packed in shoeboxes to children. Deewese said since then, they have sent over 220 million gift-filled shoeboxes.
Deewese said kids also have the opportunity to encounter Christ's Gospel. These boxes have flowed out to 170 countries. More information is available by phone at 870-404-1030.
That number is Sherri Alexander's. She's the area coordinator. More was discussed on the broadcast.
