The Santa Shuffle is close to a mile long non-timed race; the race is scheduled for Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. while entertainment starts at 9:30 a.m.
North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC) is hosting this event which has 600 people participating. NARMC's Director of Marketing and Community Relations Kim Rosson appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Wednesday to talk about the event; she said that originally 500 Santa suits were purchased. The 600 participants aren't just locals.
"We have people from 34 different cities around the state," Rosson said. One thing is required to enter the race, and it's not money.
Rosson said a new children's toy is required in order to enter the race. The toy doesn't have to have a certain dollar value. She explained that this is because it helps larger families participate and not have to spend large sums of money on toys.
With that said, Rosson added that "it's amazing how nice the toys are that come in." Participants will receive a complete Santa suit in which they will complete the race.
Upon finishing the race, people are given a medal. If someone wants to participate but did not register, there's a way they join in the fun.
Rosson said anyone that has a Santa suit from past years can email her and will have permission to join. Even if someone has a suit, a toy still needs to be given. Free downloadable pictures will be available at narmc.com.
More was discussed during the interview. The full interview with Rosson is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
