Marion County Man Shoots at Person, Charged With Attempted Murder

Someone checking on the well being of an individual ends up getting shot at with the shooter now facing attempted murder charges.

The full release below is from the Marion County Sheriff's Office:

Marion County Sheriff Gregg Alexander reports that deputies arrested Jimmy Jones, and charged him with one (1) count of Criminal Attempt to Commit First degree Murder (Class "A" felony), one (1) count of Discharging a Firearm from a Vehicle 2nd Degree (Class "B" felony), and one (1) count of Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons (Class "B" felony), following an incident that occurred on 05/06/25 in northern Marion County.

Sheriff Alexander states Jones was parked in the roadway on MC 8042 when the victim stopped to check on him. The victim stated she asked Jones if he was okay, and Jones responded by pointing a handgun at her, prompting her to drive away from the scene. The victim stated she heard at least two (2) gunshots as she drove away, and stated Jones got in his vehicle and followed her for a short distance before turning onto another road.

Deputies responded and processed the scene of the initial incident and then responded to a call of a vehicle crash near MC 3530. Deputies found a vehicle belonging to Jones and recovered a firearm from the vehicle but were unable to locate him. The victim was able to identify Jones as the person who fired at her, as well as the vehicle Jones had been driving.

Jones was arrested on 05/08/25 and booked into the Marion County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
