A local mayor is recognized for his efforts in helping the image of his town in conjunction with a landmark date in history.
Harrison Mayor Jerry Jackson was recognized as the "Arkansan of the Day" by television station KTHV in Little Rock last week as he was at the State Capital to present an award to Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission Executive Director DuShun Scarbrough during the 60th Anniversary Ceremony of the Dr. King's "I've Got a Dream" Speech. Jackson presented Scarbrough with the City of Harrison's First Ever "Ambassador of Peace" Award for his and the commission's help in improving its image in regards to race relations.
The award was also noted on KTHV's News Broadcast that day as long-time news anchor Craig O'Neill made not of the award and named Jackson the station's "Arkansan of the Day."
