The Boone County Conservation Conservation District is hosting an event to make citizens aware of invasive species, both animal and plant species.
One of the topics for the event coming to Minnie Harris Park June 13 is Poison Hemlock. At a recent Harrison City Council Meeting, Chief Operations Officer Wade Phillips reported to council that the city had been working with the district and Quail Forever to identify and treat areas that have developed on public lands in the city. Phillips added that the upcoming event will give the general public information on the dangers of the hemlock and how to treat it on their private property.
Information posted on the district's website says other sessions will be held during the day by the Arkansas Forestry Commission on Invasive Tree Species as well as a session conducted by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission on Feral Hogs and other invasive animal species.
Other information booths will be set up at the event which will run that day from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and is free and open to the public.
