The Harrison School District announces its participation in a program to buy locally produced beef for its school lunches.
According to the release from the school, the program is an initiative form the U.S. Department of Agriculture that helps fund the purchase of locally produced beef. School Food Service Director Jonathan Dove applied for and was awarded $30,000 from the program known as the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program.
With the awarding of the money, the school district has purchased beef from Harrison’s Natural State Beef Company for use in several dishes produced for school lunches including spaghetti, tacos, and chili.
The release states that the Harrison School district serves approximately 190,260 breakfasts, 269,768 lunches, and 40,003 snacks annually as part of its food program.
