Harrison Chief Financial Officer Luke Feighert gives updates on what is happening the city.
Feighert gave a report at last Thursday's Harrison City Council Meeting plus stopped by KHOZ''s "Around the Table" on Friday to talk about sales tax numbers plus upcoming additions to the city.
During the "Around the Table" interview, Feighert talked about the impact of the addition of TJ Maxx to Harrison as well as the ongoing work with the Data and IT Company Provalus. Feighert along with Explore Harrison's Matt Bell, who was a guest co-host on Friday's show, added that the money the city is generating from sales tax is being reinvested into the city including the Downtown area and parks. They said the more money spent locally can enhance quality of life for the community and also encourage people who are raised in the area to stay in the area after completing their education.
During the City Council Meeting, Feighert reported that sales tax revenue is still in the top ten for all time revenue and thanked the citizens for continuing to spend locally. He added that the work with Provalus on getting a location and final agreement for them to develop a new location in Harrison is making steady progress.
The complete release from the City is below while the complete interview from Friday can be found on the Around the Table Facebook Page:
At the Harrison City Council meeting on Thursday, Aug. 28, CFO Luke Feighert updated the council on sales tax and ProValus.
“The good news is that we are still in the top ten in sales tax revenue. This is a big deal for our area. Unfortunately, we can take it for granted. But a strong, steady growth over the years helps our local economy,” Feighert said. “So we thank our citizens who help support our local economy.”
“For an update on ProValus, we have created a draft economic development agreement and a lease agreement. We have an offer on a potential piece of property pending council approval. We’ve blessed it and met with our attorney. We presented it as a draft to the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC), and they have since forwarded it to ProValus. They will look at it, and eventually, we will come to you for the final blessing. We’ve done all the legwork we can do. We borrowed with pride from other cities working with ProValus agreements. The Chamber’s President and CEO, Jeff Nielsen, is visiting the first ProValus plant in Brewton, Alabama. He’s had some very good things to say. Good news on that front. We are excited and hope to get that done quickly.”
