Drought Steady In Arkansas, Increases in Missouri

Its mixed results on the latest information released Thursday from the U.S. Drought Monitor.

In Arkansas, the areas of drought remain almost identical to last week with areas around Harrison Abnormally Dry. The drought line in Arkansas is generally from Blue Eye to Alpena to Jasper with areas west of there not at a drought level currently. Areas east of Harrison are at a Moderate to Severe Drought Level. 

Meanwhile in Missouri, there has been little change around the Branson area with levels immediately north of an Aurora to Branson line still at the Severe Drought area while areas to the west are at a Moderate or Abnormally Dry Level. Where the change has taken place are in areas around Bradleyville in northeast Taney County along with a large section of Ozark County which are now at a Extreme Drought Level. According to the Drought Monitor Website, the Extreme Level means pond and stream levels are very low and extremely dry conditions are in place. In addition, late season crops are in danger. 

The Extreme Drought Level is also impacted much of Christian and Greene Counties in the metro Springfield area. 

Rain is in the forecast for the region on Saturday following by another dry period in the Lakes Region, though temperatures will be cooler with seasonal normal highs in the 70s.
