While World Breastfeeding Week took place earlier this month, many organizations take the opportunity to promote education and support during several weeks in August and September .
Wendy Faulkner of the Taney County Health Department says during a recent edition of the "At Your Service" Podcast that those education efforts has helped taken breastfeeding from something not talked about to being supported by many groups and businesses around the world. Many businesses now have places available for moms to breastfeed their baby with products having been developed over the years to make that easier in public settings.
Faulkner says that breastfeeding has many documented benefits for the health of both the baby and mother and even has an economic benefit for families.
The Taney County Health Department will hold a Breastfeeding Awareness event at the Branson Rec Plex on September 28 which also will provide information on other services available in the area.
