A vehicle vs. wildlife accident this past week claims a life.

On the evening of August 13, 2025, at approximately 9:45 pm, the Boone County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a four-wheeler near the intersection of Tar Kiln Road and Twin Fork Drive. Upon Arrival, deputies discovered the driver of the vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Cody Spence, deceased at the scene. Chief Deputy Roberson confirmed that the investigation of the accident indicates Mr. Spence's four-wheeler struck a deer, resulting in fatal injuries.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Spence," said Chief Deputy Roberson. "This tragic incident is a sobering reminder of the dangers that can arise even during routine travels or recreational activity."
The Boone County Sheriff's Department urges all ATV and four-wheeler operators to exercise caution, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced and wildlife activity increases. Riders are encouraged to wear protective gear, operate vehicles at safe speeds, and remain vigilant of their surroundings.
