Boone County Heritage Museum Open House and Better Accessibility

The Boone County Heritage Museum will have an open house on April 10, and that's happening right after a big step in making the place more accessible, according to Jeff Middleton.

Middleton appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Tuesday to discuss it. The museum normally runs on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month at that same time. However, it will stay open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Thursday's open house. Middleton said guests can drop in during that timeframe, and the museum will offer snacks.

Middleton spoke about one what has stood as the museum's biggest downfall: stairs. A large portion of the exhibits sat inaccessible to people with disabilities. That barrier will fall soon.

That's thanks to Dr. Don Crosswhite. Middleton said Crosswhite had the idea to video the upstairs exhibits so the videos could play in another room.

That will make the upstairs sights and information accessible to those who can't take the stairs. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Middleton is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
