Bell Talks Harrison Christmas Parade Set for Dec. 1

The Harrison Christmas parade is approaching, according to Explore Harrison Executive Director Matt Bell.

Bell talked about the parade during his appearance on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Friday. The parade will take place Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. Judging begins at 6 p.m., and judges are asked to arrive by 5:30 p.m.

Bell said there are more than 100 vehicles or trailers set to participate — 115 in total. He noted there were 84 official responses, meaning some participants are bringing more than one vehicle. Bergman and Harrison school bands will also perform.

Police and fire crews will lead the parade. Bell estimated that the total number of vehicles could reach around 150 once all entrants arrive, and he added that many participants will be walking as well.

The theme for this year is The Grinch. Bell said he asks participants not to dress as Santa because it can confuse children. The parade’s official Santa will ride on a fire engine at the back of the lineup.

Bell said the parade will not be postponed for rain. It will move forward unless a severe situation, such as a tornado, occurs. If temperatures drop, Creekside Community Center will open its warming station for the public.

Those wanting to enter a float will pay a $25 entry fee. Anyone entering multiple vehicles will pay an additional $5 for each extra entry. Bell said all money goes back into downtown Christmas lights and other efforts once trophies are paid for.

Floats must be in position by 5:30 p.m. on parade day. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Bell is available on the "Around The Table" Facebook page.
