An organization that helps single parents with opportunities to support their family is currently accepting applications for the scholarships.
Kim Paul Williams of the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, during an appearance on KHOZ's "Around the Table" program, talked about the organization formed in 1990. Williams says the fund is designed to help single parents, either fathers or mothers, to afford an education and lessen the financial burden on those individuals who also are supporting a family. Williams says they can give up to $1,600 per semester to individuals which is designed to fill in the gaps in their budget to go to school and take care of living expenses.
Williams added that the organization is a 501 C (3) which receives not state or federal funds and does use volunteers for some of their programs. That led Williams into talking about the upcoming Volunteer Expo in the Signature Bank Community Room on August 29 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Williams said that this is the restarting of a past event to let committee members know the opportunities to volunteer with many organization. She added that high school kids will be coming to the event in the afternoon to learn more about the organizations.
