Marvin Anthony Mertes, age 89, of Springfield, Missouri
Marvin Anthony Mertes, age 89, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away March 5, 2022. He entered this life on July 3, 1932, in Andale, Kansas, the son of Benjamin and Irene (Smarsh) Mertes. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Serena, Trudy, and Dean; and three brothers: Clem, Lawrence “Pinky”, and Cletus “Butch”.
Marvin proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was known as a generous person who loved to tease and joke around. He enjoyed playing golf, playing billiards, and riding bikes. Marvin was known for “marvin-izing” everything, and he would continuously find ways to streamline a process. The memories created with Marvin will be cherished forever.
He is survived by his children: Michael Mertes of Wellborn, Texas, Michelle (Ralph) White of Spring, Texas, Randall (Penny) Mertes of Cave Springs, Arkansas, Gregory (Mabel) Mertes of Kansas City, Missouri, Todd (Laurie) of Kimberling City, Missouri, and Jennifer (Jeremy) Reed of Springfield, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Evelyn (Jerry) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Bernetta of Seattle, Washington; brother, Benny Joe (Chris) of Wichita, Kansas; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He will be inurned 12:00 p.m. April 1, 2022, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Rd., Springfield, Missouri, with full military honors.
