The Taney County Health Department is joining organizations around the world in celebrating a major awareness week
The TCHD Press Release is below:
Taney County Health Department (TCHD) invites the community to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, August 1st through August 7th, and support local breastfeeding families. Designated as a Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic, TCHD serves the community by providing exemplary breastfeeding guidance. A dedicated Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is on staff to promote, encourage, and support mothers during their breastfeeding experiences.
“Breastfeeding is so important because of the numerous health benefits for not only babies, but also for breastfeeding moms” explains Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, Wendy Vaughan. “It also forms a special bond between mother and child.”
Thanks to Wendy and the dedication of the TCHD WIC team, 83% of women who participate in WIC in Taney County initiate breastfeeding with their babies.
Did you know that breastfeeding…
• Lowers risk for diseases like diabetes and cancer in moms and infants.
• Protects against ear infections, allergies, and general illnesses.
• Prevents obesity in the early stages of life.
This life-changing practice deserves a joyful celebration. Taney County Health Department WIC is hosting a free Breastfeeding Celebration open to all prenatal and breastfeeding women in Taney County. Refreshments and activities will be provided. The event will take place on September 9th starting at 10am at the Branson Rec Plex: 1501 Branson Hills Parkway, Pavilion D; Branson, MO. Please call (417)334-4544 ext. 318 with any questions and to RSVP.
