Woman Charged with Reckless Driving on Way to Accident Scene

A Boone County woman was arrested and is facing a total of nine charges after she was driving over 100 miles-per-hour and refused to pull over for law enforcement while she was racing to get to family members who were involved in an accident.

29-year-old Kassandra Sue Riley of rural Harrison was booked into the Boone County Jail following the incident May 23.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office posted by KTLO, a deputy was on patrol when he noticed a car coming up from behind at a high rate of speed with its hazard lights on. A female was hanging out of the passenger window yelling and waving at him.

The deputy started following the car and once he caught up to the vehicle, they were doing between 115-120 miles-per-hour. The vehicle was passing other vehicles in the turning lane and weaving in and out of traffic at over 100 miles-per-hour. The pursuit passed the Valley Springs school at over 100 miles-per-hour.

The deputy learned the driver was on route to Newton County where her children had been involved in an accident and Newton County dispatch said she was refusing to pull over. Boone County dispatch was able to get Riley on the phone. She eventually pulled over, ending the pursuit that lasted nearly five miles.

Riley told the deputy her mother and children had been in a vehicle accident in Newton County and that is where she was going.

Riley is facing felony counts of fleeing and aggravated assault, a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a minor and traffic violations which include reckless driving, careless and prohibited driving, improper lane change, improper passing, no seat belt and speeding. She is free after posting $7,500 bond.
