The Miller Learning Center provides help with learning but from outside the classroom, according to Kayli Miller.
Miller, a former third grade teacher, appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss her service. She provides support to students via tutoring during the school year and summer. The center runs during the day when school is session. Miller provides tutoring 8 a.m. to 1 or 2 p.m. A couple of other tutors are available on specific days.
She recalled that parents would ask her about additional ways they could help their kids learn. Some teachers would tutor kids in the summer, but it was not ideal. There were limits on that.
Filling that gap was interesting to Miller. She launched the Miller Center for Learning two years ago. What started as her teaching a few students has grown to include more educators and students.
The learning center owner turned her attention to a way that Arkansas helps students. Miller explained that there are literacy focused tests that spot "at-risk-students." "For kindergarten through third grade, those students are given a $500 grant to be used towards tutoring services," Miller said.
Miller's educational center is an "approved tutor," meaning they can work with students who receive that grant money. She said that June 30 is the cutoff date to use the grant.
Calls and texts to the Miller Learning Center go to 870-686-2448. More was discussed on the broadcast. The full interview with Miller is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
