The Gene Kenyon Memorial Fish Fry is July 6

The Gene Kenyon Memorial Fish Fry is early next month, according to Becky McNabb.

McNabb is the president of the Omaha Fire and Rescue Association Auxillary. She appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss the tasty event. It's on July 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees can expect a cornhole tournament, a silent auction and more.

McNabb explained that Kenyon was a big supporter of the fire department. He would fish during the whole season for them in order to supply them with fish for a fish fry. After his death, his wife offered the auxiliary the equipment for the fry as a donation.

The only requirement was that the equipment be used. While the group hasn't run continuously in the past, they have goals and more activities.

The auxiliary seeks to help the firefighters with anything they can. That includes snacks and more. McNabb also said that community involvement is a goal.

Residents of Omaha are invited to join the group. Anyone wanting to join can contact McNabb at 281-744-6506.

The group takes food and monetary donations. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with McNabb is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
