Strong to Severe Storms Run Through Lakes Region

Strong to severe thunderstorms move through the Lakes Region Monday afternoon and evening dumping rain in many areas needing it due to the recent drought. 

According to reports made to the National Weather Service in Springfield, large amounts of rain fell in several locations including around three inches reported by a weather observer around the Branson West/Reeds Spring area in Stone County while an observer in Barry County reported just under three inches of rain in the Butterfield area. 

The heaviest rain fell the Springfield metro area with areas of central and south Springfield along with Battlefield and Galloway receiving fourth to five inches of rain. 

The thunderstorms also caused some damage including reports of a tree uprooted and laying on a house in Ponce with several other trees down between there and Reeds Spring in Stone County, around the Highlandville area of Christian County, and near Oak Grove in Carroll County. 

After a foggy morning, most areas will see sunshine and no rain for the rest of this week into the Labor Day weekend.
