Starbucks defeats Missouri AG’s lawsuit over DEI initiatives

MISSOURI – A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office last Thursday that challenged international coffee chain Starbucks over diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

The lawsuit, filed in February 2025 by then-Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, alleged that Starbucks’ practices to prioritize DEI ultimately amounted to unlawful discrimination.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri formally dismissed the lawsuit Thursday. District judge John Ross ruled that the state did not identify “even a single Missouri resident” who was denied a job or harmed due to Starbucks’ employment practices, according to court documents obtained by Bloomberg Law.
