Signatures Needed for New Buffalo River License Plate

The Searcy County Chamber of Commerce is seeking signatures for the new Arkansas specialty license plate featuring the Buffalo National River.

Signatures are needed in order for the state to begin producing the plates and make them available for purchasing.

The county’s first specialty license plate was unveiled late last month at the Buffalo River Historic Jail and Museum in Marshall.

Local artist Jamie Craddock of the Buffalo River Art Gallery in Gilbert donated the artwork for the project.

The art depicts Grinder’s Ferry, located at the U.S. Highway 65 bridge south of St. Joe.

The chamber says in a social media posting each license plate sold will generate $25 for the Buffalo River Community Development Corporation, a Searcy County 501(c)(3).

Money from the license plate will be used for economic development in Searcy County, including tourism.

The Searcy County Chamber expressed its appreciation to Sen. Missy Irvin of Mountain View and Rep. John Payton of Wilburn for their efforts sherphering legislation through the General Assembly for the project.

Signatures for the project are being gathered at Marshall Medic Pharmacy, Buffalo River Art Gallery and Gilbert General Store Camping and Canoeing in Gilbert and L.A. Salon & Boutique in Leslie.

For more information, contact the Searcy County Chamber of Commerce at (870) 448-2557.
