The Harrison Roundup Club rodeo parade is partnering with Share & Care and a local church to collect food at the parade at 4 p.m. on Sept. 26.
Mike Parkinson is the organizer of the parade this year. He recommends attendees come by 2 p.m. He appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Thursday Holly Carson and Pastor Doug Cartwright of the First Prysbertarian Church of Harrison. Carson is with Ozark Share & Care. While the rodeo has the Harrison Roundup Club name, the parade organizer explained that it's about the community.
That belief that it's about the community comes out in the fundraiser. The club is partnering with Ozark Share & Care and the local Prysbertarian church to give back and help stock Share Care's shelves.
Carson said they have just enough every week, but the shelves are empty. Parkinson said members of the church have donated food to the non-profit.
He said he will collect food at the end of the parade. Carson pointed out the best foods to donate.
She said "shelf-stable" foods are what they are looking for. Items like soups and vegetables need to have pop tops.
Of course, donors need to make sure that the food isn't expired. Carson said anyone wanting to make a donation besides food can do so.
She recommended people wanting to do that donate a manual can opener. Later, Cartwright spoke about why the church is involved.
The pastor said that his congregation has worked with Share & Care for years. Lately, the church has frequently discussed the importance of not just attending church but being the church body.
Share & Care is available by phone at 870-741-3130. More was covered on the broadcast.
The full interview with the three is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
