Area residents are mourning the loss of a long-time educator and coach. Alpena School District Superintendent Larry McKinney died Thursday at the age of 74.
McKinney has worked in the Arkansas education system for over 50 years as a coach, teacher and administrator. He coached hundreds of students in basketall, football, track, tennis, golf, softball, baseball and volleyball. McKinney is a former girls’ basketball coach at Flippin High School and a former coach and administrator at the Bergman School District. He has coached girls’ basketball at Alpena since 2014 and was named the district’s superintendent this past June.
A Celebration of Life for Larry McKinney will be held at this afternoon at 2 at Crossroads Community Church in Harrison. Visitation will be from 1 until the time of the service.
He is survived locally by his wife, Karolyn McKinney of Bergman, and his son, Joe McKinney of Omaha.
