For the second day in a row, severe thunderstorms rolled through the Lakes Region resulting in large hail, damaging winds, and flooding.
Unlike Saturday's storms which were pop-up and slow moving, the Sunday storms came through the region on a line between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. The reports from Emergency Management, Law Enforcement sent to the National Weather Service included:
Hail
Reports of around one inch size hail was reported in areas between Aurora, Purdy and Monett in Lawrence County, around Ava in Douglass County, near Holiday Island in Carroll County, and at Boxley in Newton County. Pictures of smaller hail were posted via social media from areas around Rockaway Beach and Kirbyville.
Strong Wind
The strongest wind reported was around Kirbyville in Taney County, with a 70 MPH Gust causing some trees to go down between Kirbyville and Kissee Mills including one across Highway 0. A tree was also reported as falling on a home in Kirbyville and power lines were also reported down in the area.
Flooding
Another round of heavy rain prompted a Flash Flood Warning for areas around the Buffalo National River in Newton County. Law Enforcement reported to the NWS that water was reported over the Highway 7 Bridge from Mill Creek near Dogpatch.
The weather will be mostly calm this week with just a slight chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures in the upper 70's today and in the 80's the rest of the week.
