A request has been made by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders for more federal cost share for areas impacted by the Memorial Day Weekend Storms.
The full release from the Governor's Office is below:
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders requested a 30-day, 100% federal cost share for the counties affected by the severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes that began on May 24, 2024, from President Joe Biden to support ongoing recovery efforts. This disaster caused severe infrastructure damage, overwhelming amounts of debris, and hundreds of damaged dwellings. The full letter is linked here.
“A federal cost share adjustment to 100%, up from 75%, will relieve the financial burden of recovery for the struggling communities,” said Governor Sanders. “If approved, these resources will help our communities come back even stronger.”
The following are included in the request: Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Fulton, Madison, Marion, Nevada, Randolph, and Sharp counties.
Sanders previously requested, and the President granted, a Major Disaster Declaration following the severe weather that impacted Arkansans on May 24.
