A request has gone out to the federal government for disaster relief.
On Monday, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Joe Biden to support ongoing recovery efforts in Arkansas communities impacted by the severe winter weather in January and February of this year, which caused power outages, damage to infrastructure, and deaths.
In a statement released by Governor Sanders, she says the impact of the storms in 13 counties require assistance beyond the state’s capacity to handle the recovery.
With the damage assessment process now complete, Governor Sanders is specifically requesting public assistance for residents in the 13 counties, one of which includes Searcy County and Hazard Mitigation statewide.
