Parts of the Lakes Region had an unexpected round of showers and thunderstorms late Wednesday afternoon as a system dropped brief periods of heavy rain across mainly the southern Missouri counties.
After a quiet overnight, several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon through tonight into Friday though there will also be periods without rain. A few storms this afternoon could become severe with small hail and 50-60 MPH wind gusts possible.
The rain will move out for a dry and warm weekend with more rain possible middle of next week. Forecasters also predict highs to possibly reach 90 degrees for the first time this season early next week.
