A bridge that was damaged in the July floods could possible reopen in December.
According to a post on the Marion County Facebook Page, the county's Director of Emergency Management Melissa Penn and Road Foreman, Greg Ashton, met with officials with the Arkansas Department of Transportation along with construction and engineering personnel to put assess the damaged caused by the July floods that damaged the bridge over Moccasin Creek on Marion County Road 8060.
The assessment by the group was that the flooding event had not caused the overall structural integrity of the bridge to be compromised even though the bridge did suffer a partial failure. While the normal time line to have a complete replacement of the bridge would be over four years, the discussion which also included County Judge Jason Stumph came up with a plan to install a semi-permanent rock retaining structure to fortify the bridge enough to reopen.
According to the county post, construction is set to begin in November and should be completed in about six weeks.
