October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time used to remind people of the number of people that are impacted as well as some measures to help prevent and detect it. 

Zoey, a student with the College of the Ozarks Nursing Program, discussed some of the facts on the “At Your Service” podcast series done in conjunction with the Stone County Community Health Coalition. She says that over 15% of the over 300,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed are breast cancer. 

Zoey adds that regularly scheduled mammograms are important for early treatment and says that women knowing their family history with cancer and taking care of themselves and getting exercise can help reduce the risk of cancer.
