Tuesday’s severe thunderstorms that pelted much of the Ozarks with hail will be remembered as a major event according to a meteorologist.
During an interview on KRZK’s Ozarks Now, Mark Burchfield of the National Weather Service office in Springfield said the damage due to the large hail that fell in Springfield and other parts of the Ozarks will total thousands of dollars if not more. He said the up to four inch hail that fell made vehicles not covered up targets for hail damage along with businesses with large windows. Burchfield added that it was the most significant hail event he can remember in his years with NWS
Besides the hail, Burchfield added that many areas, especially in northern Arkansas, got some much needed rain from this system with many areas currently at high levels of drought.
