North Arkansas Counseling Foundation Continues to Provide Mental Health Services

Jim Sportt is the Board President of North Arkansas Counseling Foundation; Sportt discussed the foundation on KHOZ on Wednesday’s edition of "Around the Table."

Sportt said the foundation is a counseling ministry that was originally started in First Baptist Church. “Our first offices were located there more than 15 years ago,” he said. Sportt said that Dr. Bob Langston “had a real passion and concern for people who faced mental health issues.” Sportt said there was not a lot of counseling for mental health in the area, so Langston started this ministry in the Baptist church.

Langston was always committed to having professional licensed staff. Sportt said Langston came to see him to set up a corporation. “We set up a 501C3 corporation about ten or 11 years ago and moved out of the First Baptist Church to our current location and have provided counseling services, mental health services of all kinds with licensed personnel from a Christian perspective,” Sportt said. He added that they end up writing off $40,000 to $50,000 a year in counseling services because of people who are unable to afford it. “We are a place to go whether you can afford the mental health counseling or not.”

North Arkansas Counseling Foundation’s website has more information and donations can be given via the website as well. The entire interview is available on Around The Table’s Facebook Page.
