Newton County Man Faces Charges for Failure to Register

A Newton County man has been arrested after failing to comply with reporting requirements as a registered sex offender.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Newton County Sheriff’s Department were looking for 49-year-old Eric Wade Hacker as a possible suspect for a recent break-in in the Marble Falls area. Authorities went to investigate a camper parked in a lot near The Hub Motel along Arkansas Highway 7 Spur, where they were advised the residence belonged to Hacker and his wife.

Upon arrival, Hacker’s wife told deputies he was currently not at home. When asked how long he had been living there, she stated about two days before a medical response call on October 28 for chest pains.

Authorities checked the sex offender registration for Newton County and discovered Hacker tried to update his address on November 1 by phone, but was told he had to update his registry in person before he could move. He was scheduled to update his registry November 7, but failed to show and never registered in Newton County.

Hacker has previous convictions in 2016 and 2018 for failing to register or comply with reporting requirements, making him a habitual offender.

Hacker was arrested and booked into the Newton County Detention Center where he was released on $10,000 bond.
