LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An Arkansas law promises to enhance support for pregnant women and new mothers by creating a new type of certified care in the state.
Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed House Bill 1252, now Act 965, the Certified Community-Based Doula Certification Act, into law last week. The act creates a certification pathway for doulas in the state.
A doula is a person who provides support to pregnant women and new mothers by providing educational and emotional support and assistance in navigating community resources throughout the pregnancy, birth and postpartum process. Per the language of the act, a doula will be certified by criteria from the Doula Alliance of Arkansas.
