Moratorium On Hog Farms in Buffalo River Watershed Now Permanent

An issue that has been at the forefront around the Buffalo River Water Shed is finally resolved.

According to an article from the Arkansas Advocate posted by KTLO, the Arkansas Legislative Council reviewed and approved the regulations containing the permit moratorium during its meeting last week.

The issue went back over a dozen years when a permit was issued to C & H Hog Farms that raised concerns about the farms impact on the nearby Buffalo River. A moratorium was put in place and the state bought the property that C & H was located. This past legislative session, a senate bill was introduced that would have restructure the way moratoriums were issued with some fears that the new bill could end that moratorium and once again allow hog farm operations. 

Amendments to the bill protected the moratoriums from a legal review with the Legislative Council's review confirming the moratorium will remain in place.
