Missing Solider Killed in WWII from the Ozarks Back Home

A Lakes Region resident killed during World War II is finally back home.

According to information posted on Ozarks First, U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant Robert P Aikman of Forsyth was captured by the Japanese in the early days of the war and remained a prisoner until a ship he was being transported on was sunk in 1945. He was buried in a mass grave with his identity being recently confirmed.

The remains were flown to St. Louis on Thursday and a procession down Interstate 44 and Highway 65 brought Lt. Aikman back home. Many flags were raised in his honor along the route according to various reports. Greenlawn Funeral Home is handling the arrangements with services planned for May 22 at 1 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Forsyth, with burial following at Forsyth Cemetery, with military honors.
