A Marion County man’s bid to outrun the law failed when he crashed a motorcycle just outside of Gassville late Sunday night.
According to a news release from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Joseph Michael Verdusco of Yellville is on a no-bond hold in the Baxter County Detention Center a host of felony and misdemeanor charges.
The Sheriff’s Office says Corporal Austin Morrison was on patrol on State Highway 126 North between Gassville and Midway when he encountered a speeding motorcycle clocked at 21 miles per hour over the speed limit.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop when the motorcycle accelerated to high speeds toward Gassville. Morrison pursued the motorcycle which was being ridden erratically until it crashed just inside the Gassville city limits at approximately 11:15 p.m. The rider was taken into custody at that time and identified as Verdusco.
During a search of Verdusco’s person, deputies located 4.12 grams of methamphetamine, several hundred dollars in cash and drug paraphernalia. Verdusco was also identified as a parolee with outstanding arrest warrants in both Marion and White counties.
Verdusco is charged with felony counts of Possession of Methamphetamine with Purpose of Delivery, two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Fleeing by Vehicle and felony parole violation. He will also face reckless driving, speeding, no liability insurance, no motorcycle license and expired vehicle license, all misdemeanors.
Bond for the new charges was set at $15,000, with the no-bond hold issued due to the parole violation and failure to appear warrants.
Verdusco is expected to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on Thursday.
