A man accused of driving from Florida to Searcy County to kill his sister has now had his first court date.

According to court documents, 68-year-old Mark Brown is charged with 1st Degree Murder in the death of his sister Mona Sloop in July in her driveway in Leslie. The probable cause affidavit states that Brown and a friend drove from Florida to Leslie and met with Sloop at a gate to her residence. Brown got out of the vehicle and spoke a moment with Sloop then as she was walking back toward her residence, he grabbed a weapon from the hood of the vehicle and shot her in the back. Brown then left with his friend and returned to Florida. The body was eventually discovered two days later by Searcy County Deputies with the investigation leading to Florida and the arrest of Brown on October 2.

Sheriff Kenny Cassell tells KTLO that Brown appeared in Searcy County Court on Tuesday and bail was set at $1 million. Brown's next court appearance is scheduled on November 10.
