Kanakuk Kamps claims their insurance company mislead victims and the families in negotiations of settlements after abuse claims.
According to a recent story from the Branson Tri-Lakes News, the cross-claim filing by Kanakuk Heritage, Inc., Kanakuk Ministries, and Joe White against ACE American Insurance Company states the insurance company controlled negotiations with the victims of Pete Newman’s abuse and told camp officials and staff to not disclose what they knew or the insurance company would not provide the camp with coverage. The filing goes on to claim that the company then misled the families claiming that camp officials had not knowledge of Newman's activities prior to his arrest.
Newman was convicted of abuse against several Kanakuk attendees during an extended period of time and has been the subject of several lawsuits, including one filed last year by one of the victims Logan Yandell.
