The nation’s newest Federal Holiday is today.
The holiday commemorates the date in 1865 when the final order of the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in Texas. While Juneteenth celebrations have taken place for over 100 years, this is only the fifth year for the Federal Holiday after Congress approved it and then President Joe Biden signed it into law in 2021.
Most of the Federal Holiday rules are in place today with most Government Offices closed as well as most Financial Institutions. Also, no Regular Mail Delivery will take place today.
