An area school district has their playground damaged by a fire caused by fireworks over the weekend.
According to a Facebook post from the Jasper School District, the playground at Jasper Elementary caught fire on the 4th. Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and were about to extinguish the fire according to the post. No injuries were reported.
Jasper Schools Superintendent Kimberly Liggett said in an interview with KTLO News that a bottle rocket flew into the playground igniting the mulch then spread around the ground and to several pieces of the plastic playground equipment.
The post says that the playground will be closed as district staff assess the damage.
