The City Advertising Tourist Promotion Commission (CATPC) met Thursday morning for the regular monthly meeting before going into their retreat-planning session to plan for 2026.
Under new business, the commission approved a $1,000 sponsorship for the Santa Shuffle, which North Arkansas Medical Foundation has hosted for many years. This year will be the seventh for the annual fundraiser.
The LT Classic Committee was approved for the $2,500 requested. The tournament is scheduled for Dec. 29-31, and eight boys' and seven girls' teams are currently signed up. Six to eight teams could spend the night.
The Advertising & Promotion tax (referred to as the ‘hospitality’ tax ) was established by Harrison City Ordinances and levied a 3 percent tax on the portion of the gross receipts or gross proceeds received from overnight lodging.
A 1 % tax on prepared food and non-alcoholic beverages (referred to as the "Hamburger" tax) sold by restaurants is collected monthly.
The Commission is actively reinvesting this money back into the community in various ways to promote tourism and bring dollars into the community.
