Harrison Mayor to Address City Police and Fire Staffing at Tonight's Council Meeting

One of the items on tonight's Harrison City Council Meeting agenda is a discussion of Questions on Staffing Issues.

The item, brought forth by Mayor Jerry Jackson, is a response to discussions that occurred at a March Council Meeting that Jackson was not able to attend due to being out of of town. A discussion was held by council members with concerns on the failure of the passage of the Sales Tax in which much of the revenue generated went to the Police and Fire Departments.

In a copy of a letter from Jackson posted on the city's website, the Mayor lays out the numbers on how the current levels of both departments are proper for a city the size of Harrison. Included in his comments are how the current numbers are needed to serve not only the population of Harrison but for the city's location along two major U.S. Highway Corridors as well as its close proximity to Branson and the number of visitors traveling to the region.

The discussion from March included concerns that both departments might have to downsize staff due to the loss of the tax revenue set to expire at the end of the year.

Tonight's meeting begins at 6:00 at Harrison City Hall.
