Harrison City Council to Vote on Establishing Historic District Commission

A proposal first made in the spring could receive final approval from the Harrison City Council this evening.

On the agenda for the meeting is the final reading of an ordinance that would establish a Historic District Commission that would give local authority to decisions made in an Historic District. In conversations that initially took place in made, Public Works Director Wade Phillips was among several individuals that made the recommendation based on situations that had developed in the past about businesses wanting to establish themselves downtown and having to navigate all of the standard regulations as well as requirements for a historic district.

Without a local commission to consider those requests, they must be sent to a state agency which then has to be processed as soon as that commission can get to it. The local board can look at those situations in a more timely manner.

Among other items on the agenda for the meeting are discussions on storm sirens as well as a grant for electric car chargers.

This evening's meeting begins at 6:00 at Harrison City Hall.
