Harrison City Council Gives Initial Approval to Placing Sales Tax on Ballot

The Harrison City Council gives initial approval to placing a question on the November Ballot to approve a one quarter of one percent Sales Tax that would help with funding for the Fire and Police Department as well as other Municipal Services.

The tax has been collected by the city since 2002 with several renewals after that, but voters failed to renew the tax when it was on the ballot earlier this year.

A lengthy discussion was held during the meeting about the proposal and how it would impact staffing of the fire and police departments if not passed with council members encouraging the public to ask questions of council members and staff on the specifics of how the money is spent.
The ordinances authorizing the Special Election will need to more approvals before appearing on the November 3rd Ballot.
